Why is KnowBe4 capped at 2x?
KnowBe4 is one of the most widely used security awareness training platforms. Companies use it to teach employees about phishing, social engineering, ransomware, and data handling. The 2x speed cap is a compliance measure — KnowBe4 wants to ensure people actually watch the content rather than fast-forwarding through it in seconds.
For first-time learners, that makes sense. For employees retaking the same annual training for the third or fourth year in a row, it means sitting through material they already know at a speed that feels painfully slow.
How PlayFaster works around it
PlayFaster overrides the playbackRate getter on HTMLMediaElement.prototype. When KnowBe4's player checks the current speed, it always reads a value of 2 or below — even if the actual playback rate is 4x, 8x, or higher.

Step by step

Does it work with KnowBe4's interactive content?
PlayFaster controls audio and video playback speed. KnowBe4 modules often include interactive elements like quizzes, click-through slides, and simulated phishing exercises. Those interactive parts are not affected — they still require your input at normal speed. PlayFaster only accelerates the video and audio portions.
Will KnowBe4 or my company know?
