Why does Cornerstone limit playback speed?
Cornerstone OnDemand is used by enterprise teams for compliance training, performance management, onboarding, and continuing education. The platform's video player either caps speed at 2x or — in many SCORM-packaged courses — hides speed controls entirely. The reason is the same one every enterprise LMS gives: minimum watch time, reportable engagement, and audit trails for compliance officers.
For a first-time learner, that pacing is fine. For an employee retaking the same annual harassment-prevention or data-handling training they took last year, it just adds drag.
How PlayFaster works around it
PlayFaster overrides the playbackRate getter on HTMLMediaElement.prototype. When Cornerstone's embedded player checks the current speed, it reads the expected value — even if your actual playback rate is 4x, 8x, or higher.

Step by step
- Install PlayFaster from the Chrome Web Store or Firefox Add-ons.
- Open your Cornerstone training the way you normally would — through your company's portal or a direct link from HR.
- Click the PlayFaster icon in your browser toolbar. Set your speed using the arrow buttons, the scroll wheel, or by typing a value directly.
- That's it. The video plays at your chosen speed. Cornerstone's player reads the expected value and stays quiet.
Does it work with Cornerstone's interactive content?
Cornerstone wraps SCORM and AICC content with quizzes, assessments, and click-through slides. PlayFaster only affects audio and video playback — it doesn't touch quiz logic, scoring, or assessments. Those still require your input at normal speed. If you skip past content and fail the assessment, that gets reported.
Will Cornerstone or my company know?
PlayFaster spoofs the playback rate getter so Cornerstone's player reads exactly the value it expects. There's no warning, no flag, and no log entry indicating a higher speed. From Cornerstone's perspective, you're watching at normal speed.
That said, Cornerstone does track total time-on-module, completion status, and quiz scores. Those continue to report based on your actual interaction with the platform. PlayFaster is a tool — use it responsibly.
