Why is LinkedIn Learning capped at 2x?
LinkedIn Learning (formerly Lynda.com) offers playback speeds from 0.5x to 2x in its video player. This is a UI limitation — the player doesn't expose a higher option. There's no active speed enforcement, no page reload, and no background check watching your playback rate.
For casual learning, 2x is usually fine. But many professionals use LinkedIn Learning to rapidly skill up — watching dozens of short courses to prepare for a new role, earn a certificate, or satisfy employer training requirements. At 2x, a 4-hour learning path still takes 2 hours. At 3x or 4x, you can cut that significantly for material you're already comfortable with.
How PlayFaster removes the cap
PlayFaster overrides the playbackRate property at the browser level, beneath LinkedIn Learning's player. When you set a speed in PlayFaster, the browser plays the video at that rate regardless of what options the player UI offers.
PlayFaster also spoofs the playbackRate getter so the player still reads a normal value — no glitches, no errors, no unexpected behavior.
